Episode Description

Originally aired September 6, 1937, this episode of Fibber McGee & Molly finds Fibber appointing himself as a one-man education reform committee on the first day of school in Wistful Vista. While Molly questions his qualifications, Fibber charges into Public School Number 14 with ideas to “improve” the curriculum and parental engagement. Mistaken for a student, he quickly takes over the principal’s office and throws the school into chaotic hilarity. From a self-written school anthem to taking charge of PTA complaints, McGee’s brief tenure as acting principal includes visits from eccentric teachers, confused parents, and a singing student named Perry. Hilarity escalates when Fibber fields parental concerns, receives a janitor's “petition,” and tangles with a gym teacher bent on giving the real principal a workout. In the end, the parents and staff come together—in perfect slapstick style—to give Fibber a resounding send-off. Complete with Johnson’s Wax ads and digitally remastered for clarity, this episode delivers classic laughs from radio comedy’s golden age.
