Episode Description

Originally aired September 20, 1937, this episode finds Fibber McGee & Molly at the center of a town-wide frenzy after Fibber casually spreads a rumor that $10,000 in stolen bank money is buried in their backyard. What begins as idle gossip quickly escalates into chaotic comedy, as neighbors, townsfolk, and even city officials descend upon the McGee home, armed with shovels and steam shovels alike. Fibber’s attempts to maintain order only make matters worse, with comedic misunderstandings piling up as quickly as the dirt. From a suspicious electric treasure-finding device wielded by Mr. Depoppolo to the McGee’s furnace oil tank being mistaken for buried treasure, the antics don’t stop. Even little Teeny shows up, shovel in hand, ready to dig for gold. And when the police chief joins the excavation, all bets are off. Complete with Johnson’s Glow Coat ads and remastered for clarity, this madcap installment of Fibber McGee & Molly showcases classic radio comedy at its most delightfully absurd.
