Episode Description

In this suspenseful episode of Gunsmoke, Marshal Matt Dillon finds himself the target of a vengeful killer who strikes down an innocent man by mistake. When Shaw, a man with no known enemies, is shot in the back on Front Street, Marshal Dillon is determined to uncover the truth behind the attack. Shaw's only clue is a fleeting mention of "Stone" from the shooter, leading Dillon to suspect that he was the intended target. As Dillon pieces together the mystery, it becomes clear that Danch—a man with no ear—has sworn vengeance on the Marshal, setting up a deadly confrontation. The script was later adapted for television, airing on December 15, 1956, solidifying this gripping story as a classic of the Gunsmoke series. Featuring the atmospheric music of Rex Koury and the skilled direction of Norman Macdonnell, Spring Term is a tense tale of mistaken identity, vengeance, and the relentless pursuit of justice in the Old West.
