Episode Description

In this intense episode of Gunsmoke, an Indian scout named Tobeel, highly respected for his honor and experience, seeks work with a cattle drive heading into Dodge City. Carrying what he believes to be a strong letter of recommendation from his “friends” in town, Tobeel is humiliated to find that the letter is instead a cruel joke, mocking his character. Humiliated and furious, Tobeel vows to take revenge on the men who orchestrated this heartless prank. Marshal Matt Dillon is left to manage the ensuing tensions, aiming to keep the peace while honoring Tobeel’s sense of justice and pride. Directed by Norman Macdonnell and written by John Meston, this episode explores themes of respect, betrayal, and frontier justice. Frank Gerstle and Ralph Moody deliver strong performances, with Rex Koury providing musical direction and Ken Peters as announcer.
