Episode Description

Originally Aired: March 3, 1951 When Celia Woodstock vanishes without a trace, insurance investigator Johnny Dollar is drawn into a maze of deception, jealousy, and hidden pasts. Captain Lyle Woodstock, her much older and adventurous husband, insists there’s no trouble—despite hiring both a private detective and Dollar to find his missing wife. As Johnny follows the trail from an icy estate on Long Island Sound to the bustling streets of Bridgeport, he uncovers cryptic phone calls, secret bank withdrawals, and a mysterious name: Sprague. The investigation quickly spirals into violence when Johnny is ambushed in the Woodstock home, leaving Celia gravely wounded and her husband dead. As the police and Johnny race to untangle the web, the truth emerges: Celia is a bigamist, still married to the dangerous Emil Sprague, who has hunted her down for money and revenge. In a gripping climax, Johnny and the police corner Sprague in a desperate standoff, while Celia, fighting for her life, confesses the tragic secrets that doomed her new happiness. A tale of double lives, blackmail, and a past that refuses to stay buried—this is one of the most suspenseful cases in the Johnny Dollar files.
