Episode Description

Originally Aired: January 30, 1953 In The Kay Bellamy Matter, insurance investigator Johnny Dollar is dispatched to New York to investigate a puzzling application for a two-million-dollar insurance policy on rising radio star Kay Bellamy. Submitted by her ambitious agent, Lou Waltham, the policy raises red flags when inconsistencies begin to surface about the singer’s background and unusual professional demands. Dollar’s search leads him from Broadway offices to a Boston burlesque theater, where the glamorous radio performer secretly dances under a veiled alias. As he digs deeper, he uncovers a tangled web involving a wealthy Boston heir, a jealous chorus girl, and a dangerous ex-convict with unfinished business. When Waltham is found murdered in his soundproof office, suspicion falls on those closest to Kay—including a violent enforcer and a desperate accomplice. What begins as a routine insurance inquiry spirals into a tale of hidden marriages, prison transfers, blackmail, and betrayal. With a daring roadside confrontation and a tragic end for one of the conspirators, Johnny Dollar untangles the truth behind Kay Bellamy’s double life—revealing a woman trapped between ambition, loyalty, and survival.
