The Witness

Paul Kilburn, a talented but irresponsible architect, is fired from his job due to his reckless behavior and excessive drinking. His colleague and romantic interest, Edith, offers him financial and emotional support, which leads to his eventual success as an architect. However, as Paul becomes involved with a wealthy tobacco heiress, Patricia, he starts to distance himself from Edith. When Paul is awarded Architect of the Year, Patricia confronts him about their relationship and demands he end things with Edith. In a drunken state, Paul drives recklessly and ends up in a hit-and-run accident, resulting in the death of a man. In a panic, he hides Edith's body and reports her missing to the police, leading to the discovery of her damaged car. As the police investigate, they uncover the truth about the hit-and-run, and it becomes clear that Paul's life has unraveled beyond repair.
