Steve Neal, a traveling artist, comes to the aid of an elderly man being mugged in a quiet district of Silverton. Grateful for Steve's help, Gerald Jameson, the owner of the mansion nearby, offers Steve a job painting for him. Despite initial success, Steve becomes embroiled in a dangerous scheme involving Jameson's safe and his niece, Ruth Royce. As events unfold, Steve finds himself facing unexpected consequences and a shocking twist.
