After the mysterious disappearance of Philip Towers, Alice Towers returns to the village of Wickley after a five-year search for her missing husband. She insists on moving back to their old house against the advice of others, despite rumors of hauntings and superstitions surrounding the property. As Alice settles back into the house, strange occurrences and unsettling conversations with the gardener and her brother-in-law increase her fear and suspicion. Alice's mental state deteriorates, leading to a tragic and fatal accident as the truth about Philip's disappearance is slowly revealed.
