The Men from Mars

Mickey and Daisy, two school children in the year 2040, fantasize about traveling to Mars after hearing a news report about a possible Martian expedition. They discover an affordable second-hand spaceship and, despite concerns about its reliability, decide to launch on a midnight adventure. However, while exploring space, they encounter a hostile Martian ship that captures them. The Martians, possessing superior intelligence and telepathic abilities, initially plan to eliminate them but ultimately decide to spare their lives, warning them not to return or they will be destroyed. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Mickey and Daisy consider their options, trying to strategize about revealing what they know to avert a potential Martian invasion. Fortunately, their fathers, working with the space patrol, rescue them just in time, leading to their return to Earth, where they face the consequences of their reckless adventure. The story concludes with the boys reflecting on their near disaster and realizing their dream of going to Mars did not lead to the heroic legacy they had hoped for.
