Mrs. Lavery Manners hires Assignments Unlimited to provide a temporary dog walker for her greyhound, Tootsie, while her butler is incapacitated. Mr. Cannon, the assigned walker, and his colleague Miss Fairweather discover that the assignment is more complex than expected. After a strange encounter during the walk leads them to a darkened house where they find a dead man, they realize that the dead man was the butler who was potentially involved in something illicit regarding dog racing. They suspect that there are two dogs named Tootsie and deduce that Mrs. Manners is using her situation to run a dog racing scam, training multiple greyhounds under one name to manipulate betting odds. They follow the leads to a race where they confirm their suspicions, uncovering the larger criminal operation. In the end, Mrs. Manners is apprehended, revealing the dark side of her seemingly glamorous life.
